  • Location: U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center (NSSC) Building 15 (West side of General Greene Avenue), Natick, MA 01760.
  • Shift: Weekends - Hours will vary from 6:00am to 6:00pm.

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Cook II to join our food service team at a high-volume dining facility on Fort Drum. This mid-level role is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting meals in accordance with standardized recipes and portion guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  •  Prepare and cook meals following standardized recipes, portion controls, and dietary guidelines.
  •  Monitor food quality, freshness, and presentation to ensure consistency and compliance.
  •  Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  •  Uphold food safety and sanitation standards in accordance with health regulations (e.g., ServSafe).
  •  Assist with receiving, labeling, and storing food supplies using FIFO methods.
  •  Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and supervisors to coordinate meal production.
  •  Support junior staff with guidance and training as needed.
  •  Respond to routine kitchen challenges with practical, timely solutions.
  •  Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment during high-volume service periods.

What You'll Need to be Successful:
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience working in a commercial, institutional, or high-volume kitchen environment.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on experience working as a Cook in a commercial, institutional, or high-volume kitchen.
  • Prior experience mentoring or supporting junior kitchen staff is a plus.
  • Experience operating kitchen equipment and managing prep timelines.
  • Solid understanding of food safety and sanitation practices (ServSafe certification preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills for measuring, conversions, and inventory support.
  • Valid Real ID.

Physical & Environmental Demands:
  • The position requires standing for extended periods, with occasional walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move food items, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Frequent physical activity including stirring, chopping, mixing, and handling kitchen tools and ingredients.
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements are required for tasks such as food prep, plating, and operating kitchen equipment.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills are essential for precise cutting, measuring, and assembling dishes.
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, sharp tools, and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, aprons, and hairnets, may be required depending on task and area; training will be provided.
